Trapped in Chess addresses the thinking mind. Thinking that overrides feeling. Thinking in black and white, in boxes and categories, overthinking it all. In this art performance, Ryx embodies a character who wants to get out of their head and into the body.

But they’re delusional and overwhelmed by the many thoughts that are going on in their head. Clarity arises when they start sewing. The act of cutting fabric into squares and sewing them, one after another together, creates some ease in this mess. Out of the analysis paralysis emerges a monotonous act of doing the same thing over and over again, and with it, the stagnation subsides.

Bringing the black and white thinking out of the head and into the third realm - embodying it - is an act of devotion to the body. The body gets power back by owning and wearing the cloak. It can move accordingly, even though remaining covered and trapped in the chess.
